Corruption in India

Once upon a time Indian was called as a “Golden Sparrow सोणे की चिडिया “ , why was so called ?

Mark Twain a famous American writer (November 30, 1835 - April 21, 1910) wrote, why India is called a "Golden Sparrow". He quoted:  The land of dreams and romance, of fabulous wealth and fabulous poverty, of splendour and rags, of palaces and hovels, of famine and pestilence, of genii and giants and Aladdin lamps, of tigers and elephants, the cobra and the jungle, the country of hundred nations and a hundred tongues, of a thousand religions and two million Gods, cradle of the human race, birthplace of human speech, mother of history, grandmother of legend, great-grandmother of traditions, whose yesterday’s bear date with the modering antiquities for the rest of nations-the one sole country under the sun that is endowed with an imperishable interest for alien prince and alien peasant, for lettered and ignorant, wise and fool, rich and poor, bond and free, the one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for the shows of all the rest of the world combined.

Wow when I was reading the above I start feeling unlucky to be born in 19’s  why I did not born in 18’s. Since I start understating the world around me , maybe I was 8 years age. I had seen everywhere selfish people. Very few of them that too in villages only who will welcome you to their homes without any benefit expecting form you. I think every human on this earth 1st think of his/her happiness then others. And this may be the main reason of corruption.

What is corruption as per the Dictionary “Misuse of power for own benefit”
It means all the people who ask for money or any indirect favour to perform our (public) job which is their prime responsibility is corruption and it is a crime. And All of us including me we prefer to pay some money to get done our job in less time. So who is culprit we as a public or the officers who take extra money for us.
We are equally responsible for the corruption equally with those corrupt officers. Just think of a general case of any common man who can afford to pay extra money, can he/she prefer to stand in a queue if there is an option of going inside directly by paying Rs. 100, the answer will be, my 1 hr is more valuable than Rs 100, I would rather pay 100 bucks and finish my work.

We forget our licence at home , forget to wear seat belt , forget to wear helmet , break the signal , enter in no entry , park in no-parking zone and when police will catch you , you straight away offer him bribe saying “ are sahib kuch le de ke khatam karo na , maine jan boz kar rule nahi toda , toda urgency main tha aur mere se ho gaya” . Who stupid will deny the offer , after all he has his expeneces. Now tell me who is culprit we are the officer. If you are paying and will to pay and keep breaking the rule , don’t ever expect from the PM or CM that they will end the corruption for you , start from you and them tell others , that’s what our parents and teachers taught us , isn't it true.

India’s corruption score in 2014 is 38/100 means, out of 100 jobs you have to pay for 38 extra money or bribe. And bribe payers score is 7.5/10, means out 10 almost 8 people are ready to get done their job with short cut by bribe or trying to pay money as a bribe for breaking the laws. While the same China is 36/100 and 6.5/10, While China was double in years 2000 in case of corruption index.

Corruption start from our home, we as a mother and father tells  out kid, if your bring this time 90% I will buy you a PS4 , Husband brings a new phone as a gift to wife in lieu of forgetting  their marriage anniversary , I invited my boss for a cocktail dinner party when the increment period was near , that did not help me to get good increments but it was a bribe.  it’s not in India only everywhere in the world it is happening but breaking law and paying bribe I think it a biggest crime .

Just guess your close relative has been knocked by a truck which you have seen by your own eyes and you knew that it was pure mistake of a truck driver but after few days you came to know that he paid some money and the police changed the statement or destroy some of the evidences which may shows the driver is guilty and he may be behind bars, in this case you will blame entire nation, entire system, government and police for corruption and bribery but when you jump the signal and the police wanted to prepare a challan against you , you never agree with heart.

Out system starts from us , We have to follow rules and if by mistake if anything happens wrong by any means by us we must be ready to pay fine in a legal way which will teach us the lesson or will remind us when next time we will try to break the rule. If decide not to pay bribe and bust the corrupt officers soon we will on the line of china which growing at the speed of light and some economics are predicting that in 2050 China will be biggest economy even can cross USA. If china our neighbor can do that why can’t we.

Pollution In India

Everyone who think of 1’s and their family’s health is worried about the problems he face from his surrounding environment and keep blaming to all except him or her.
I think pollution is a biggest problem for us who are staying in metros and sub metro cities. We experiences suffering our self and our family members due to air pollution especially caused vehicle exhaust.
I was reading an online article published in Feb this year which gives us good statics about pollution in India.
As per the article
India's air pollution is so bad which is reducing our life expectancy by 3.2 years
As per WHO recently published data on pollution around the world they are focusing on airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5). These particles normally come from vehicle emission, which are causing serious respiratory problems.
13 out of  20 world’s most-polluted cities are present in India. And Indian cities have much higher PM2.5 levels than any other polluted country like China.
As per the study conducted by an Economic & Political Weekly —a popular journal in Mumbai —  660 million people in India now live in areas where PM2.5 levels exceed the country's national air-quality standards. That excess pollution alone, they estimate, reduces life expectancy at birth by 3.2 years, on average.
Now let’s talk about who is responsible for this pollution , Few days back I was talking to my father who is a retired truck driver (80 years old) as per him the technological up gradation is a main cause of pollution and laziness in the upcoming new generation he wanted to say some more bitter things about the effect of internet , smart phones, Digital Gaming , fast food culture and so one but I just listened to him and kept it aside for my next blog topics.
it means in his 40’s  1973-74 when I was  just 5-6 years old there were few trucks , no auto rickshaws , few noise making  bikes on road ,Yezdi, Rajdoot and lambretta which were more pollution creator than the recent CBZ and Activah’s. but the number matters , as I know every 1 family out of 100 might be having 1 bike at their home and rest were having bicycles but now every family almost have minimum one bike , especially in cities.  That does not mean that the new technological up gradation is creating more pollution.
Just think of your vehicle, do you remember when the last time you went for a real PUC test for your vehicle? I know you don’t have  the answer or maybe you are thinking what will happen if I don’t do actual PUC test and get the Certificate by paying some money?
I am damn sure the PUC guy never fails any vehicle even the one which is omitting smoke clouds, and  even if he does that next time no one will go to him and  he will not get business . If the vehicle owner don’t want to get the real test result of his vehicle which may force him to spend money on repair, There are almost all including me are like the same, because we don’t think of tomorrow we are just thinking of today has passed so be happy.
I remember when I was 10 years old and my father was very depressed because he was not able to renew his driving licence due to miner eyesight problem and those days there were no agents who can help you to get it cleared by paying money. He went for medical treatment for his eyes and finally he pass the test after 6 months but until that he stopped driving.
Those days people follow the rules and nature too supports them , now we don’t follow the rules , we pay some peanuts to those “Sarkari Babu’s- सरकारी बाबू “ to allow us to bypass the rule. As usual everyone thinks  if I alone break the rule it does not make difference , rest of 1,279,061,473 (Live population -India) people except me will follow the rule , if everyone in our country says the same just guess what will be the result.
I have seen on roads  , people do keep their  cars ON , window  glasses down and keep chatting with friends , what is wrong in switching off the engine while not driving I don’t know but  most of us never  thinks it’s necessary for our environment . For our country, Eventually for us and our family.
You might have seen for sure  around you , some people are committing small silly mistakes or ignore some traffic norms which may be  the cause of addition pollution,  Did you ever try to indicate that to the concern person but who has the time to do. Guys everyone should be waking u now and making noise if we see such things and at the same time implant a discipline in your own life about the same.
If you are honest to yourself  and start following discipline in your daily life, for sure you will see some others will  start following  you , minimum your next generation  will follow you and if every one of us will decide to do the same , sooner or later our problems will start reducing  and pollution levels  is one of them which will go down and we can see the same fresh India again.

Truth of Birbal Story

In 80’s when I was in high school I use to read Birbal stories and always thinking why at the end they give “moral of the story”.
When I am on my decline I and getting the answer to my question, I am going to tell you guys a nice story of Birbal which is very much applicable to us Indian’s who always say “ Mera Bharat Mahan “ , I am proud of my Contry etc……
One day, Emperor Akbar said to Birbal, "Birbal, my people love me very much and that is why they are ready to carry out every order of mine willingly."
Birbal smiled and said, "This is true, but they fear you too, Jahanpanah." Akbar did not agree with Birbal on this and that is why it was decided that Birbal's statement should be tested.
Next day, according to Birbal's instructions, it was announced that the Emperor would be going for hunting, and people should pour a pot of milk in a tub kept in the courtyard. The people thought that the Emperor is out and would not come to see the tub himself, so all they poured in the tub, was some water. Next day, when Akbar returned from hunting, he found that there was not even a single drop of milk in the tub, instead there was just some water.
Akbar got very disappointed when he saw this and asked Birbal about his next move.
Birbal said, "Jahanpanah, once again announce that you are going for hunting and this time you will see the tub yourself after coming back."
The Emperor did as Birbal said. Once again, the tub was kept in
the courtyard. This time, when the king returned from hunting, he was pleasantly surprised to see the tub overflowing with milk.
Birbal said, "This proves the truthfulness of my statement, Huzoor! It is your fear which makes the people obey you. The first time there was no one to check the tub, so people poured the water, but the second time, they knew that you would check it yourself, that is why they brought the milk."
Akbar understood that it is indeed fear that keeps people discipline

The moral of the story

We people don’t follow the discipline until the government enforce a law.
But why?
Don’t we teach out kids not to spill garbage in our house? If yes then why don’t we follow the same when we are at public place , why we smoke on the road and throw cigarette bits out of garbage bin.
When I ask one gentleman  ,why he throw a train ticket just like that after finishing his journey, he nicely replied, Government should place enough garbage bins at public places.
I asked him if he keeps that ticket in his pocket until he finds a garbage bin , he got angry on me and said “ mind your business” and he want away but good thing is that while going he picked the thrown ticket and kept back in his pocket. I smiled and thought wow we Indian’s are very sensitive when someone hurt our ego we do miracles.
This is  1st step towards “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan - स्वच्छ भारत अभियान”.
Guys let’s start today and take an Oath that "we will not make this country more dirty if we can’t make it clean". Start now from yourself and spread message as much as possible , This is our country like our home , if we are obliged to keep our home clean and hygienic , let’s understand that we obliged to keep  our surrounding also clean and hygienic
lets kick the one who is trying make it dirty.
