In 80’s when I was in high school I use to
read Birbal stories and always thinking why at the end they give “moral of the
story”.
When I am on my decline I and getting the
answer to my question, I am going to tell you guys a nice story of Birbal which
is very much applicable to us Indian’s who always say “ Mera Bharat Mahan “ , I
am proud of my Contry etc……
One day, Emperor Akbar said to Birbal,
"Birbal, my people love me very much and that is why they are ready to
carry out every order of mine willingly."
Birbal smiled and said, "This is true, but they fear you too, Jahanpanah." Akbar did not agree with Birbal on this and that is why it was decided that Birbal's statement should be tested.
Birbal smiled and said, "This is true, but they fear you too, Jahanpanah." Akbar did not agree with Birbal on this and that is why it was decided that Birbal's statement should be tested.
Next day, according to Birbal's
instructions, it was announced that the Emperor would be going for hunting, and
people should pour a pot of milk in a tub kept in the courtyard. The people
thought that the Emperor is out and would not come to see the tub himself, so
all they poured in the tub, was some water. Next day, when Akbar returned from
hunting, he found that there was not even a single drop of milk in the tub,
instead there was just some water.
Akbar got very disappointed when he saw
this and asked Birbal about his next move.
Birbal said, "Jahanpanah, once again
announce that you are going for hunting and this time you will see the tub
yourself after coming back."
The Emperor did as Birbal said. Once
again, the tub was kept in
the courtyard. This time, when the king
returned from hunting, he was pleasantly surprised to see the tub overflowing
with milk.
Birbal said, "This proves the
truthfulness of my statement, Huzoor! It is your fear which makes the people obey
you. The first time there was no one to check the tub, so people poured the
water, but the second time, they knew that you would check it yourself, that is
why they brought the milk."
Akbar understood that it is indeed fear
that keeps people discipline
The moral of the story
We people don’t follow the discipline
until the government enforce a law.
But why?
Don’t we teach out kids not to spill garbage
in our house? If yes then why don’t we follow the same when we are at public place
, why we smoke on the road and throw cigarette bits out of garbage bin.
When I ask one gentleman ,why he throw a train ticket just like that
after finishing his journey, he nicely replied, Government should place enough
garbage bins at public places.
I asked him if he keeps that ticket in his
pocket until he finds a garbage bin , he got angry on me and said “ mind your
business” and he want away but good thing is that while going he picked the
thrown ticket and kept back in his pocket. I smiled and thought wow we Indian’s
are very sensitive when someone hurt our ego we do miracles.
This is 1st step towards “Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan - स्वच्छ भारत अभियान”.
Guys let’s start today and take an Oath
that "we will not make this country more dirty if we can’t make it clean". Start
now from yourself and spread message as much as possible , This is our country
like our home , if we are obliged to keep our home clean and hygienic , let’s understand that we obliged to keep our surrounding also clean and hygienic
lets kick the one who is
trying make it dirty.
Jai Hind
